SCG Boot reveals cabin

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG), niche carmaker founded by James Glickenhaus, is working on a four-door modification of its Boot buggy. The car will likely be released in late 2020 or 2021, but the first interior renderings are already here.

The seat layout looks quite unusual. In particular, the front seats are grouped tighter in the middle than the rear ones – apparently, to ensure a larger field of view. The three-seat supercar SCG 004 uses the same seat layout, as do some Le Mans vehicles.

Although Glickenhaus describes the Boot as a 2+2 car, we’d say it is 2+2+1, as long as you count the children’s seat in the middle of the rear row. You can unmount it to get a wide armrest between the seats. The rear row also rises higher than the front one, which once again results in better FOV and grants the passengers more legroom while keeping the wheelbase appropriately short (longer wheelbase means worse terrain traversability).

The SCG Boot will emerge in two different versions: Rally and Road. Both will pack the same basic engine (General Motors 6.2L V8), but the former will extract 650 hp (485 kW) out of it thanks to an added supercharger, while the latter will make do with natural aspiration and 466 hp (347 kW).

The company intends to produce at least 20 road-legal cars priced starting from U.S. $228,000.

In late November, the SCG Boot took part in the Baja 1000, one of the most challenging endurance rallies ever (watch the video for details). Overall, the company considers it a success, despite being the second last to cross the finish line. The reason is that, out of the 264 participants, only 124 made it to the end – in other words, less than half. In its own competition category, the SCG Boot went up against the much-hyped Ford Bronco R, which also had to leave the race prematurely due to unresolvable technical issues.
