Skoda Superb gets a flagship hybrid spec

The new Superb goes liftback-only with 272 metric horsepower under the hood and maxed-out trim options.

In its previously released version, the Skoda Superb used a petrol engine alongside an electric motor for 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) total. In contrast, the new version manages 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), making it the most powerful in the family so far. Interestingly, the company claims the entire power and torque gains come from the engine – the e-motor stays intact.

Tuned like this, the Superb sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.1 seconds and can tow trailers weighing up to 2 metric tons (4,405 lbs). It also comes with larger and better cooled disc brakes for more confident deceleration.

The battery pack is 25.7 kilowatt-hours large, but all range figures remain to be published. The original Superb got up to 120 km (75 miles) of all-electric range per charge and needed almost half an hour to replenish its charge from 10 to 80 percent.

All pricing details are pending.
