Subaru prepares six cars for TAS-2026 premiere

The Japanese automaker will be introducing three warmed-up production cars at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon opening on January 9th, as well as three track-focused builds.

In particular, the WRX and Levorg models get a special edition titled “STI Sport R-Black Limited II STI Performance Edition”. It features a new radiator grille, black side mirror caps, 18-inch alloy wheels and a special exterior paintjob resembling the yellow the rising sun.

Interior additions are limited to Alcantara on the dashboard and Recaro seats trimmed to match the yellow-and-black exterior. Since no technical upgrades are mentioned, we suppose both models retain their 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine boosted to 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW) and 375 Nm (277 lb-ft) of torque.

The third special edition targets the five-door Impreza. Dubbed the ST-H STI Performance Edition Plus, it comes loaded with STI Performance parts for a sportier appearance. Subaru also mentions “sharper handling”, but it remains to be seen what that refers to, specifically.

In 2026, the company plans to take its Subaru BRZ GT300 racer to the Super GT series, enter a domestic rally championship on a specially equipped WRX VBH and later launch a third race car of which we know nothing to date. Rumor has it the WRX STI may also get a stick-shift version on the Japanese domestic market, but likely not in the rest of the world.
