9th-gen Toyota Camry spied testing

Carscoops has posted a bunch of spy shots showing the next Toyota Camry running around in Michigan, USA.

The prototype is camouflaged top-to-bottom with only some glass and the wheels exposed. Overall, though, it looks unchanged in terms of size or proportions. The rear end appears more smoothed-out than before and the nose looks boxier, but both could look like that due to fake panels. As for the lighting all around, it looks slimmer, like on the latest Crown models.

Drive Australia reported as early as February this year that the next-gen Camry development was in full swing. The general expectation is that the car will keep its TNGA-K unibody platform (see video) but get a revised selection of engines. These will mainly be hybrids, but some countries – including the United States – should get a couple of non-electrified gasoline options. It would also make sense for Toyota to phase out the old 3.5-liter naturally aspirated six-pot in favor for a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-pot.

According to The Drive, the new Camry will first go into production in the USA in Aril 2024. Toyota could unveil it later this year – for instance, at the Los-Angeles Auto Show in November.
