To participate in a national hill climb race, FatBoy Fab Works built a very special Toyota Hilux pickup last year, endowing it with a twin-turbocharged V12 and other extreme mods. The truck has since been overhauled once more and makes around 1,000 horsepower.
The engine in question is a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 taken out of a Toyota Century sedan popular in Japan. In its stock form, the huge mill is only good for 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) – hardly something to get excited over. However, two rebuilds later and with the addition of two Garrett GT35 turbos, it was able to hit the wheels with respectable 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW) and 970 Nm (701 lb-ft) of torque.
That is also history now, because the drivetrain has since been upgraded with heavy-duty forged components and the engine rebuilt to accept a 50/50 petrol-ethanol mix. With these mods in place, it was able to produce round 1,000 PS (986 hp / 735 kW).
If that wasn’t enough to impress you, consider that one of the world’s most powerful Hilux trucks uses a four-speed automatic gearbox borrowed from a Toyota Supra. FatBoy Fab Works intends to replace it with a proper manual transmission when it gets around to it.
Looking forward to hearing more news from the tuner!
