Toyota’s Hilux Champ pickup debuted as an affordable commercial vehicle for developing countries in 2023. Among other versions, it was also available as a bare chassis for custom modifications. Indonesian tuning firm New Armada made a large family SUV out of it, called the Hilux Rangga Khusus.
It may not be an official Toyota model, but the Rangga Khusus will be sold via the company’s authorized dealerships. It trades its bed for a spacious cabin that tries to replicate the design of the original. The roof gets raised slightly, rails get added on top, and the wheels get replaced with a more robust model. New taillights ensure compliance, and the interior enjoys two extra seat rows (the standard truck has a single cab).
In Indonesia, the Hilux Champ comes equipped with a 2.0-liter petrol engine rated at 139 PS (137 hp / 102 kW). A more recent option comes in the form of a 2.4-liter diesel rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). The transmission can be five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Only the rear wheels are driven.
All prices are pending. Local Toyota dealerships say the Hilux Rangga Khusus will be more expensive than the truck it is based upon, but still more affordable than the Fortuner.
