Toyota RAV4 bows in the Middle East

While most markets have lost access to the non-hybridized Toyota RAV4, it remains available in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The sixth generation of the SUV is now officially on sale in the Middle East in two main flavors – Core (urban) and Adventure (quasi-rugged). The former is immediately recognizable by its bezel-free honeycomb grille, while the latter stands out thanks to bulkier bumpers and a bull bar at the front end. Other than that, the two are largely identical: 17-inch wheels come included as standard, but you can opt for 18-inch alloys in the middle spec or go for 20-inch ones in the top spec.

Opting for the cheapest RAV4 out there gets you LED headlights and taillights, textile interior trim, a 10.5-inch head unit and a 12.3-inch digital dash. HVAC, cruise control and reversing camera are included as well.

Paying extra unlocks a 12.9-inch multimedia touchscreen, a HUD, seat heating and ventilation, surround-view cameras, and a full suite of electronic assistance features.

Unlike Europe where you can buy a plug-in hybrid RAV4, the Middle East currently makes do with just two powertrain options – ICE and HEV (mild hybrid). The former extracts 172 PS (170 hp / 127 kW) from 2.0 liters of displacement, and the latter delivers 233 PS (230 hp / 171 kW) in hybrid mode. Both can be FWD or AWD. Opting for the AWD hybrid adds another electric motor to the rear axle, raising the output to 242 PS (239 hp / 178 kW). A CVT is standard for all configurations.

Prices in Saudi Arabia start from 102,350 Saudi Riyal (U.S. $27,300).
