Volkswagen’s next SUV EV gets caught on camera

At the IAA Mobility show in Munich three months ago, Volkswagen introduced a concept car named the ID. Cross (see video). It has now been spotted running road tests with very little camo on. The sales should begin next year, so let’s take a look.

Overall, the production-close ID. Cross closely resembles its show variant. At the same time, it tries to look like a rugged petrol SUV with plastic side sill extensions and fake air intakes at the front end. Most of the body doesn’t seem to have any kind of wrap on, so we suppose the premiere is coming soon.

As an official part of the impending ID. Polo lineup, the ID. Cross is a fully electric crossover running a single rear axle motor with 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW). While the hatchback debuted with 450 kilometers (280 miles) of OEM-rated driving range, the Munich SUV was said to have 420 km (261 miles) at its disposal.

A while ago, Volkswagen also announced a sported-up ID. Polo GTI with a superior 226-PS (223 hp / 166 kW). It remains to be seen whether the ID. Cross gets a similar version or not.

Price-wise, the electric Polo is expected to land close to €25,000 before options. Its SUV-shaped cousin will likely start a bit higher than that.
