The next generation of the Volkswagen Passat is only available in wagon body style in Europe, but China still has the old sedan version. It is called Magotan and will soon receive its planned annual refresh.
Images of the car are provided by AutoHome quoting the country’s Ministry of Industry and IT. The front end in particular looks completely new and only remotely resembling the European version. The headlights, the bumper and the grille all look created from scratch.
Judging by the pics, there will be two main body trim versions to choose between – chromed and blacked-out.
The spec sheet says the new Magotan is 4,990 mm long, 1,854 mm wide and 1,487 mm tall with 2,871 of wheelbase. It is thus 120 mm (nearly 5 inches) longer than pre-facelift, perhaps due to all the design improvements.
Only one engine has been announced so far – a 2.0-liter four-pot rated at 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW). Like the car itself, it will be manufactured locally at the VW-FAW joint enterprise. The pre-facelift version (see video) also had low-end petrol engines and hybrid powertrains on offer, so we expect to see some of them in the 2025 Magotan.
