The new generation of the Volkswagen Transporter is already underway, and the latest teaser vid reveals that it will be coming in a variety of trims and power options to choose from, including all-electric.
Unlike its Multivan sibling, the new Transporter no longer uses Volkswagen’s own platform. Instead, it is running on the same chassis as Ford’s Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom vans. The same likely applies to the powertrains. The only one announced so far is a diesel one with a choice between 2WD and AWD, but there will be hybrid and all-electric options, too.
Judging by the video, the new Transporter will differentiate itself from the U.S.-made vans with the help of new lights and radiator grille.
Customers will also be able to choose from a multitude of special configurations each serving its own purpose. There will be multiple body heights and wheelbase lengths to choose from, a double-cab truck version and a number of passenger van variants including Caravelle.
The launch event remains scheduled for the new spring, but the pre-orders will start later this year.
