Voyah Taishan 8 promises more seating at a lower price point

The China-made Voyah Taishan starts from 380,000 Yuan ($53,750) on the domestic market, so it’s basically considered a luxury vehicle there. In contrast, the new Taishan 8 pictured here may start under 300,000 CNY ($42,430), AutoHome claims.

The new SUV has just been added to the local certification database. At 5.2 meters (203.1 inches) long, it is just 30 mm (1.2 inches) shorter than the flagship but manages to accommodate five people inside instead of that version’s three (see video).

On the outside, the Taishan 8 looks distinctly simpler with its single-tone paintjob, no chrome accents and a plasticky-looking trim panel where the Taishan has a full-blown radiator grille. The interior isn’t shown, but we suppose it will make do with cheaper materials and equipment.

Powertrain-wise, there will be two hybrid choices. The more powerful option will deliver 517 PS (510 hp / 380 kW), while the more affordable one will be good for 496 PS (489 hp / 365 kW). The latter will reportedly make use of a smaller 44.5-kWh battery pack.

The premiere date is pending.
