Wey V9X preorders start in China

Customers in China can already order a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the new Wey V9X crossover, with mild-hybrid (HEV) and battery-electric (BEV) options coming soon as well.

The newcomer rides on the GWM One chassis and is 5,299 mm (208.6 inches) long with 3,150 mm (124 inches) between the axles. There’s also another, shorter version on sale that’s 5,205 mm (204.9 inches) long with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm (120.1 inches). The automaker bills the former as an executive SUV targeting top managers as the main audience. The latter is being advertised as a vehicle for wealthy Chinese families with kids.

Despite these differences in positioning, both variants come with three seat rows two individual seats in each – no benches this time around. The default trunk size is also surprisingly small at 244 liters (8.62 cubic feet), but it goes up to 1,024 liters (36.16 liters) as soon as you drop the seat backs in the second and third rows.

The exterior more or less corresponds to what one would expect of a modern Chinese luxury vehicle – contrasting roof, LED lights all around, and so on. The interior gets a trio of large displays and an AI-powered infotainment system that memorizes faces and supports freeform voice commands (even for trivial things like opening the trunk).

At the time of writing, the only version of the Wey V9X on sale features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine alongside a couple of electric motors. The resulting plug-in hybrid system is good for 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) in the base spec and 748 PS (738 hp / 550 kW) in the flagship spec. Range per charge is manufacturer-estimated at more than 1,600 kilometers (1,000+ miles). The flagship spec also boasts a 4.6-second sprint time from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph), while the other times remain undisclosed.

Prices start from 371,800 CNY, which corresponds to U.S. $54,534.
