Alfa Romeo gets a coupe-SUV ready to rumble in the States

According to Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, the company plans to introduce the concept for a new full-size, coupe-like SUV for the United States market later this year. He emphasized that the vehicle would not compete directly with the BMW X5 and X6.

In his interview, Imparato pointed out that the company was determined to strike the very golden middle of SUV design, and had until the end of the year to do so. While not final yet, it is assumed that the car will take on the shape of a crossover sedan not unlike the recent offerings from Peugeot and Toyota.

This new model will be designed with the feedback gathered from North American customers in mind, but an international release is also a distinct possibility in the future. Alfa Romeo believes Europe and China are both promising markets for the new SUV, and can help cement the marque’s status as an international premium car brand under Stellantis leadership.

Having said all that, the company admits that the production will have to wait until 2027 or so. In the meantime, the Stelvio SUV pictured here shall remain the brand’s flagship.
