One can argue that BMW has been losing ground in the entry-level market to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The new 1 Series coupe is hardly a match for the excellent A 45 AMG, especially since it’s not even RWD anymore. As a recent video by TR Hamza demonstrates, the old generation did indeed have plenty going for it.
The British YouTuber took a BMW M140i (F20) and upgraded it with an extreme Pure 800 Hybridturbo package. As a result, the 1 Series went from its stock 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) at the crank to 586 PS (578 hp / 431 kW) at the wheels, essentially doubling its nominal power output. Furthermore, according to the vendor, the same kit can produce up to 734 PS (724 hp / 540 kW) at the wheels running on racing gasoline or ethanol.
Watch the video to witness the rather tame-looking 1 Series tear the dyno and shoot fire from its exhaust tips.
