$169k looks like a bargain for this BMW Z8, but there are caveats

This 19-year-old BMW Z8 Roadster belongs to a production run of just 5,700 units, making it rare and desirable. The highest recorded bid for the Z8 at the same auction house was $405,000 USD, but this one has only been bid to $169,000 so far – possibly due to its less-than-ideal condition.

The listing mentions only one owner and highlights the fact that the car belonged to a special series of only 2,543 vehicles officially sold in the United States. On the downside, it has around 27,000 kilometers (16,777 miles) under its belt and has minor paint chips along with a new molding installed after a crash.

The interior comes wrapped in Nappa leather the same shade of black as the exterior and offers satellite navigation, a radio phone, a 6-CD-changer and a Harman/Kardon audio system.

Designed with the participation of Henrik Fisker and Chris Bangle, the Z8 (see video) came powered by the same V8 as the E39 BMW M5, giving it 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque with six-speed manual transmission.
