E.C.D. Automotive Design has taken the wraps off its newest Defender restomod. It may look normal at a glance, but step on the accelerator, and you’ll realize that it’s actually an EV.
The off-roader utilizes the company’s own Electric Direct EV drivetrain. It features a single e-motor rated at 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. The motor can be set up to drive only two wheels to save power or all four if needed. The battery pack is quite large at 84 kilowatt-hours of capacity, but runs out of juice after 322 km (200 miles) at most. We suppose it could be due to the transmission losses; the best EVs out there avoid using a traditional transmission.
At any rate, the good news is that you can replenish the charge from 10 to 80 percent within an hour or less. The rest of the SUV looks like a typical E.C.D. restomod. It boasts a six-point roll cage, a bull bar and a Warn winch at the front. The interior is also all-new and houses ergonomic leather seats by Recaro, an Exmoor Evander steering wheel and a modern head unit with a touchscreen.
