Great Wall teases its first-ever supercar

Great Wall Motor Company Executive Director Wei Jianjun has posted a single pic of a supercar that the company has apparently been developing for quite some time. There is no information about it yet, but unofficial sources claim it is a V8-based hybrid starting from around 1,000,000 Yuan (just under $140,000).

The only image available thus far lets us judge the size and proportions, and only tentatively at that. The car under the cloth appears stretched and very low-slung, with emphasized front fenders and rear end. The latter suggests a spoiler or a smaller rear wing. The rear wheels appear to have air intakes in front of them, which might point to a mid-engine layout. That would be especially interesting to see coming from China.

The latest engine developed by Great Wall in the house is a 4.0-liter V8 (see video). It still has no detailed specifications, so your guess is as good as ours here. Earlier reports said the company had been developing a supercar since 2021, so it should be mostly ready for launch by now. As for the branding, sources said Great Wall was considering releasing it on the domestic market under Zixin Qiche brand and abroad under Confidence Auto badge.

According to CarNewsChina, the all-electric BYD Yangwang U9 will be the main rival of this new supercar once it reaches the showrooms. This is peculiar, since the U9 is fully electric and not hybrid. It packs four e-motors jointly rated at 1,306 PS (1,288 hp / 960 kW) and zaps 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.36 seconds.
