Haval Raptor Hi4 gets updated for the next year

Certification images of the refreshed Haval Raptor Hi4 have cropped up online, evidencing that the new SUV no longer looks like its body-on-frame cousin, the H9. The full reveal is scheduled for late August, CarNewsChina reports.

Only the plug-in hybrid version has been revealed so far. It looks notably different from the old generation, which only went hybrid in December 2023 (see video). Haval has reported selling only 24,000 Raptor Hi4 units on the domestic market in January–July 2024 – a dismal figure for this type of vehicle, hence the quick facelift.

To try and make the new Hi4 more appealing to a broader audience, the company has equipped it with rectangular headlights instead of its traditional round lamps. The radiator grille received vertical chrome bars instead of horizontal slats. The taillights have been retouched slightly to stay in line with the new design, and a full-fledged spare wheel made its way onto the tailgate (which used to be occupied by a square luggage box).

The new off-roader comes in at 4,800 mm (187.5 inches) long with the spare wheel attached and 4,680 mm (182.8 inches) without. The wheelbase amounts to 2,738 mm (107 inches). Buyers can choose from three tire sizes and 18/19 inch wheel options. The curb weight ranges from 2,055 to 2,135 kilograms (4,530–4,707 pounds).

The most puzzling change has occurred in the powertrain, where Haval has replaced the petrol engine. The new engine is called GW5B15M and squeezes 152 PS (150 hp / 112 kW) out of 1.5 liters of turbocharged displacement. The old engine – which is no longer available – made 165 PS (163 hp / 121 kW). It is unclear whether the company plans to compensate for the weaker engine by installing a more powerful electric motor, because there are still no specifications for the latter.

Depending on the battery capacity, the electric range of the new hybrid is estimated between 81 and 115 km (50–71.5 miles).
