Luxeed R9 spotted out and about

Luxeed, a premium vehicle automaker co-founded between Chery and Huawei, is getting ready to reveal a new full-size crossover SUV for China. These spy shots provided by Sohu suggest that it’s still in an earlier phase of road tests.

Rumors claim that the vehicle is called the Luxeed R9, is positioned as the brand’s electric flagship and is slated for late autumn launch. Nothing has been confirmed so far, so let’s throw a glance at the photos while we wait.

The entire car wears camo, but you can still see misaligned panels and missing lights at both ends. Overall, it looks larger than the coupe-like Luxeed R7 (see video). That one’s been available since 2024 and is sized 4,956 x 1,981 x 1,634 mm with 2,950 mm between the axles.

Whoever photographed the alleged R9 also managed to snap the interior once. There’s a rather small, squared-off steering wheel, a floating digital dash and a large infotainment display in the middle.

The powertrain options are a mystery right now, but Sohu believes the SUV will ship in hybrid and all-electric variants, just like the R7 before it.

It’s probably worth pointing out that the reputation of the Luxeed brand has been marred by production delays and quality control issues in China recently. As a result, the company hasn’t managed to sell more than 2,500 vehicles in any given month so far. Huawei’s other collaborations with automakers such as BAIC, Changan, JAC, SAIC and Seres have been much more profitable overall.

Luxeed has been around for a couple of years now and may no longer be able to use its new automaker status as an excuse. Here’s hoping the company can straighten out its game with the launch of the R9.
