Mazda to introduce 2 new EVs before 2027

Mazda intends to speed up work on electrifying its product lineup after 2025, Automotive News reports quoting company CEO Masahiro Moro. These plans involve launching two new all-electric cars in production.

The years 2025–2027 mark the Stage 2 of Mazda’s electrification strategy. One of the two EVs planned for release within this timeframe will be built on an already existing versatile platform that can be used just as well with ICE engines and hybrid powertrains. The other one will be a full-fledged EV running on a native electric-only platform that has yet to be created.

The third stage, which is scheduled for 2028, will involve localizing EV production overseas, primarily in the United States where the buyers of locally assembled cars are eligible to state subsidies and incentives. Mazda had actually planned to open an industrial complex in North America long before, but later decided to prioritize investment in its industrial capacities in Japan. All in all, the automaker expects to invest more than $10 billion into the electrification until the end of the decade.

As of right now, the marque’s only EV is a crossover SUV named MX-30 (see the gallery and the video).
