Watch the Mercedes-Benz EQS drag race its rivals for the first time

The CarWOW channel on YouTube has treated us to this fine video putting together four expensive battery cars to see which one’s fastest.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ is heavier and less powerful than its competition while costing more: its sole electric motor only generates 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW) and takes it 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.2 seconds. There is a dual-engine specification in Europe, but the test was conducted in the UK where it is still not available.

The remaining three EVs – the Audi e‑tron GT, the Porsche Taycan 4S and the Tesla Model S 100D – all feature dual motors and AWD.

Watch the video yourself or read on for spoilers!

The first race was won by the Porsche Taycan, while the e-tron GT and the Model S competed hard for the second place. The North American EV might have more power on paper, but it ended up coming third. The EQS was predictably last – but the driver praised its excellent noise proofing.

The Tesla then proceeded to win a rolling start from 50 km/h (31 mph) thanks to having a single-speed transmission instead of two-range reduction gear.

The EQS proved better than the Model S at braking, but Audi and Porsche still came ahead thanks to their lower curb weight and sportier chassis settings.
