New Mitsubishi L200/Triton unveiled with new looks and strengths

Following an extended teaser campaign, Mitsubishi has finally introduced the sixth generation of its Triton mid-size pickup, otherwise known as the L200. The model received both visual and technical improvements.

The truck runs on a new ladder frame and competes with the Ford Ranger in its market niche. It comes equipped with two all-wheel-drive systems to choose from, dubbed Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD. The former has an interaxle diff lock. The latter is more sophisticated and offers the following modes: 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (all-wheel drive), 4HLc (permanent AWD with the interaxle lock), and 4LLc (same, plus reduction gear).

The suspension has been completely reworked, and drivers can choose dedicated modes for driving on sand, dirt, snow, rocks, gravel roads and so on. As far as the engines are concerned, Mitsubishi has only mentioned one 2.4-liter diesel so far. It is completely new and will ship in three turbo variants rated at 150, 184 and 204 metric horsepower (148, 181 and 201 U.S. horsepower; 110, 135 and 150 kilowatts, respectively). The peak torque amounts to 330, 430 and 470 Newton-meters for these three (243, 317 and 347 pound-feet).

Rounding off the update is a thoroughly refreshed interior. The main dash gauges are still analog, but the HVAC gets its own control panel, and the touchscreen display in the middle has multiple buttons below it.
