2023 Mazda2 revealed in Japan

The latest generation of the Mazda2 subcompact is getting its second facelift on the domestic market: the pre-orders are already running, and the first shipments are set to begin in a few months.

The update is largely cosmetic and targeted towards younger audiences. All trim levels get a new front bumper with redesigned air intakes. The radiator grille styling depends on engine power: the lesser specs get a semi-sealed grille not unlike those on the EVs, while the Sport and Sport+ specs get a large black mesh grille with red badges and a thicker bezel. They also benefit from sporty-looking 16-inch rims and black-and-red sport seats inside.

Even if you settle for the base trim, there are many individualization opportunities in the 2023MY version. For example, you can colorize the hubcaps, the side mirror caps and the roof choosing from a number of options, and also go for a previously unavailable grey or blue body finish. Mazda says there are 198 finish combos in total for the exterior. Inside, you can specify the dash panel trim in white, blue or black.

Nothing has been revealed about the engine options so far. In Japan, the Mazda2 comes with a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a same-displacement diesel tuned to 75–105 PS (74–104 hp; 55–77 kW) depending on the version.
