Porsche 718 set to leave Europe sooner than expected

Reports are coming in that Porsche will be stopping the production and sales of its mid-engined 718 Cayman and Boxster lineup prematurely in Europe.

The reason is the same as with the first-gen Macan: the outdated cars are not compliant with the cybersecurity legislation entering into force in the EU on July 1, 2024. Updating both models for compliance would be too challenging and expensive, so both cars will simply drop out of sale until their all-electric successor arrives sometime in 2025.

Interestingly, Porsche apparently wants to make an exception for the range-topping Boxster RS Spyder and Cayman GT4 RS. Both will receive updates and stay on sale in the EU. The old cars will also remain available outside of Europe.
