Toyota considering a high-end GR-badged SUV or off-roader

A Toyota executive said the company was interested in releasing a powerful GR-series crossover or full-fledged SUV.

The company’s current model lineup largely makes do with mild “sported-up” editions of standard SUVs.  For instance, the new Land Cruiser 300 has a version called GR Sport, but it doesn’t feature any new motors or drivetrain parts – just some visual flair.

According to Gazoo Racing boss Tomoya Takahashi, owners of such vehicles like an occasional race or two and mostly only choose large SUVs because they have a family to think about. Giving them a high-end vehicle that’s simultaneously practical and fun to drive is a good idea.
