467-PS Pontiac Firebird Trans Am restomod crops up on sale

The Pontiac Firebird may be an American muscle car classic, but after way too many wild conversions and rebuilds, finding a tastefully restored example isn’t easy. This one fits the bill, as long as you are prepared to stomach the $160,000 price estimate.

The restorer did a solid job disassembling the body down to the floor pan, cleaning and respraying everything in black with desaturated red accents. The subframes and the suspension received their share of reinforcements, and not just for the sake of it, either. This Firebird packs a new 6.2-liter V8 under the hood and sends 467 PS (460 hp / 343 kW) to the rear wheels via a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox.

The interior is a prime example of a restomod done right. Everything has been restored in the period-correct fashion, including even the analog gauges. Novelty inside boils down to bucket seats, new door panels and an Alpine audio system with a 1,200W subwoofer. A look at the odometer shows roughly 4,000 km (2,500 miles) of use post-restoration.

Mecum is selling the car today, May 17.
