A particularly expensive incident happened in San Francisco last week as an exceedingly rare and desirable RUF CTR fell from a height of ~2.5 m (8 feet) with the driver trapped inside. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the car had just been brought from Germany, where it got a fresh coat of paint.
It looks like the sports car slid off the ramp due to the driver neglecting to properly secure the wheels. It ended up in an almost vertical state with the driver unable to do anything, even just get out.
According to the owner, he sent the CTR back to the RUF headquarters in Germany to have it resprayed in black. The exact circumstances behind the incident remain unclear, but everything points out to simple negligence. It’s also unknown how much damage the car sustained.
The famous German tuner and racecar builder made only a three dozen such cars back in late 1980s. The standard engine was a 3.4-liter six-cylinder mill tuned to deliver 470 PS (464 hp / 346 kW) – about twice as much as the stock 911 Carrera did at the time.
