A lame 14-year-old Toyota Avalon goes up on sale for U.S. $24.6k

The SEMA show attracts dozens of highly talented car tuners every year, but there are invariably quite a few hacks among them, too. Which category do you think the team behind this Toyota Avalon sedan/saloon first featured at the SEMA 2005 belongs to?

As it turns out, U.S.-based company Rad Rides by Troy is responsible for the job. It goes out on a limb describing the vehicle as “one of Troy Trepanier’s most iconic rides” and claiming that it looks like “traveling 100 mph (160 km/h) while standing still”. Fancy that, folks!

The car has 270 kilometers (168 miles) on its odometer, and its owner wants U.S. $24,595 for it. So, what do we get for the (rather steep) price tag? There is the downright ugly radiator grille with five horizontal chrome-coated fins, a few round headlights squeezed into the lower front bumper and looking painfully out of place, and a prominent trunk spoiler lip. The well-concealed door handles are perhaps the only clever thing about the whole tuning…

This particular 2005 Toyota Avalon rides lower-than-stock on a set of aftermarket wheels coated with chrome. Rad Rides by Troy offers a few minor improvements in its interior, notably including a Rockford Fosgate surround sound system.

Would you even consider buying the sedan for 24,600 bucks?
