Toyota Land Cruiser 70 gets the 70th Anniversary Special Edition

Toyota Motor Company will be celebrating the seven decades of the Land Cruiser with a special edition limited to several hundred units.

The novelty will be available in Japan, Australia and some other countries, but the specifics will vary from market to market. For instance, customers in Japan will be able to order the Anniversary Edition as an upgrade package for their existing Land Cruiser 70s, whereas those in Australia will have to buy it with a new car.

Included in the upgrade kit is a new front fascia, flared fenders, leather upholstery for the cabin, decorative details and special badges. Only 70 such kits will be offered in Japan, including 55 for SUVs and 15 for trucks. Furthermore, interested buyers must apply for a lottery before the end of the month, and only those who win the draw will be able to pay for the kit.

In Australia, Toyota will be offering 320 Double Cab and 200 Single Cab pickups, as well as 80 SUVs. All cars will be based on the top spec known as the GXL and come in one red and two beige finishes to choose between. The scope of modifications is basically the same as in Japan.

The Land Cruiser 70 comes equipped with a 4.5-liter V8 turbo diesel good for 205 PS (202 hp / 151 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends the momentum to an on-demand AWD system and a transfer case.
