2021 Golf R Mk8 is the strongest, fastest and most digitalized Golf ever made

The new Golf R is right around the corner: first teased last month, the model will be premiering on Wednesday, November 4. To keep things interesting, Volkswagen has made a few rather bold claims.

In particular, the German automaker promised to make the upcoming R model the fastest and most dynamic of all Golfs ever produced, as well as “the most digitalized”.

The hot hatch will receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine partnered up with an AWD system capable of distributing the torque independently between the axles and the rear wheels. While not confirmed yet, this sounds like the powertrain of the Arteon R model rated at 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque.
