Tuners build a 1,014-PS, air-cooled Porsche restomod

Gunther Werks has outdone itself for this year’s Monterey Car Week, unveiling an air-cooled Porsche 911 packing 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 747 kW) and 1,017 Nm (750 lb-ft) of torque in an air-cooled drivetrain.

The car is known as the Project F-26 and is coming to the market in a batch of 26 units. It is simultaneously inspired by the classic 935 Slantnose and 911 Slantnose, the modern 911 GT3 and the U.S. fighter jet aesthetic. Most of the bodywork is carbon fiber, so the whole thing weighs just 1,225 kilos (2,700 lbs).

The engine bay at the rear end is occupied by a custom 4.0-liter flat-six engine built by Rothsport Racing. Its horizontal cooling fan is said to be racing-inspired and about twice as effective as the best vertical fan available. Add a carbon-fiber air intake with integrated blow-off valves, a modified intercooler and upgraded turbos, and you’ve got a track weapon.

A six-speed manual transmission carries the torque to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. The handling should feel modern enough thanks to JRZ adaptive hocks, dual-wishbone suspension, an advanced torque control system and 30 mm (1.2”) of extra track width.

Last but not least, the interior has been redone from scratch with a carbon-fiber dash, leather-trimmed seats and an Alcantara headliner. While the above is true for the Monterey show car, owners are invited to customize their vehicles however they see fit.
