Mazda MX-30 debuts as a mild hybrid

Mazda has unveiled the part-electric “e-SkyActiv G” version of its MX-30 in Japan. The car incorporates a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 24V starter-generator hooked onto a lithium-ion battery. Sales will begin towards the end of the year.

During the reveal event, Mazda praised high fuel efficiency without quoting any specific numbers. That said, the CX-30 model uses the same powertrain and gets 150 hp (112 kW) along with 213 Nm (157 lb-ft) of torque out of it.

Aside from the new mild hybrid spec, the MX-30 continues to be available in the all-electric version unveiled last fall. The EV boasts 143 hp (107 kW) of power and 200 km (124 miles) of range.
