Hyundai Ioniq 5 bows with impressive specs

Hyundai’s first mass-produced instalment in the Ioniq series has plenty going for it, so here is a rundown of what to expect.

The car is a crossover SUV that takes after the Hyundai 45 Concept while also harking back to the Hyundai Pony, the Korean marque’s first production car unveiled in the distant year 1975.

Unitized E-GMP chassis provides the underpinnings, granting the Ioniq 5 a nice and level floor area, a spacious frunk, and a seemingly infinite wheelbase. The latter stretches 3 meters (9.84 feet) long, while the car itself is 4,635 mm (15.21 ft.) long.

Interior highlights include a movable center console and a front panel reminiscent of the modern Mercedes models. There are two displays sized 12 inches across and a HUD display with Augmented Reality support.

The car comes with two battery sizes to choose from – 58 and 72.6 kWh – and you can order either with one or two electric motors. The single-motor setup yields 168 PS (166 hp / 124 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, and the dual-motor one commands 302 PS (298 hp / 222 kW) and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft) of torque. The entry-level Ioniq 5 can cover up to 480 kilometers (298 miles) on the larger 72.6-kWh battery.

Orders will start in the coming months.
