Next-gen Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 to get 416 HP / 310 KW

Development of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 sedan/saloon is in full swing, and later spy photos show the car gradually shedding its test mule camouflage before the premiere. In the meantime, the company gives us a few hints about what to expect of the update.

One major announcement concerns the engine. While the four-door vehicle will once again ship with the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder mill, its power will be substantially greater than in the latest version. Rumors say the most basic trim of the new CLA 45 will ship with 383 hp / 286 kW at its disposal, whereas the top trim will get 416 hp / 310 kW. Both will be bundled with an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and an AWD system (now packing the new Drift Mode).

In terms of appearance, the new generation will sport a redesigned radiator grille, larger front air intakes and wheels, new sculpted side panels, a different rear bumper and a diffuser with four exhaust tips.

Those looking for a cheaper alternative will be offered a variant called the CLA 35, with its engine output artificially clamped at 302 hp / 226 kW. This version will ship with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
