Mazda promises a super-efficient diesel for the next CX-60

The Mazda CX-60 will become available with a 3.3-liter TDI engine in the beginning of 2023, which is advertised as the cleanest diesel on the market and a worthy alternative to the petrol turbo-four hybrid.

The company said before that new Skyactiv-series petrol and diesel engines would be coming to the market, but up to date, the CX-60 was only available with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and electric motor built into the automatic transmission.

Skyactiv Scalable Architecture provides for longitudinal placement of the engine and is RWD by default. The entry-level TDI engine will be capable of 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW). Opting for AWD will net you a more powerful 254-PS (250-hp / 186-kW) version of the engine that will take the car from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds. This specification maxes out at 219 km/h (136 mph) and consumes 5.3 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km (44.4 MPG).

Redesigned ignition chambers result in a heat efficiency ratio of over 40 percent, making the new diesel Euro-7 compliant and the most eco-friendly around, Renault claims. A 48-volt electric starter will aid it with 16 PS (16 hp / 12 kW) and 153 Nm (113 lb-ft) of its own as long as the start/stop system is active.
