Car Tuning

This bulletproof Land Rover Defender looks built like a tank, but only on the inside

Rich people know that covering your car with armor from top to bottom is barely half the deal. It is just as important – or possibly more – to keep a low profile. Canadian armored car maker Inkas has managed to implement both principles in its latest project.

The tuners took a 2023 Land Rover Defender and armored it against all firearms up to 7.62mm caliber and grenade explosions in the direct proximity. The company used ballistic glass, metal plating, a bulletproof fuel tank and other protected components in the build. It also took care to reinforce the drivetrain, the suspension and the brakes to better cope with the increased load.

But the most fascinating thing is that the car looks almost stock on the outside, making it hard for anyone but Defender fans to spot any aftermarket work. For those living in more troubled regions of the Earth, this means fewer chances of getting selected as the raiders’ target. The only disadvantage of such armoring approach is that much of the padding and plating goes inside the cabin, reducing the available space.

The engine stays stock and pumps out its usual 525 PS (518 hp / 386 kW), which Inkas believes is still sufficient. All prices remain to be revealed, but you can already order your SUV with a delivery by ship or cargo plane to almost any spot on the planet.
