A unique Subaru WRX STI turned into a hardcore rally car for the World Rally Championship of 2007 and 2008 has recently cropped up on sale in the USA. Piloted by Ken Block and Travis Pastrana in a total of six races, it then proceeded to have a rally car career in North America, clocking in nearly 14,000 miles (22,400 kilometers).
Starting with a normal street-legal 2004 WRX STI model, Vermont SportsCar boosted its 2.5-liter turbo four-pot well beyond the stock 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) and 407 Nm (300 lb-ft) of torque. It never specified the final numbers, though. What we do know is that the saloon has twin fuel pumps, a high-flow exhaust system, improved cooling all around and a superior ECU with multiple power presets to switch between.
The suspension has been completely overhauled, too. It ended up with Öhlins coilovers and remote reservoirs at all four corners, new control arms, improved sway bars and 15-inch Speedline Corse wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion rubber. The interior was stiped clean and equipped with a roll cage, bucket seats with head and neck protection, and a fire extinguisher.
The bidding has reached $85,000 earlier this week, but the seller felt it wasn’t enough and withdrew from the auction.
